Income tax on interest Earned

From the 2012 financial year, income tax would be halved on up to $1,000 of interest income, including interest earned on bank deposits, bonds, debentures and annuity products.
The tax benefit applies to individuals and includes savings held through a trust or a managed investment scheme.

Flood Levy

For the 2012 financial year, a flood levy is introduced. The levy will be 0.50 % for earnings between $50,000 and $100,000; and 1.00% for earnings above $100,000. Those directly affected by the flood will be exempt.
